| The Mattarelli Wine Company: a constantly updated wine tradition that goes back four generations. Umberto, to whom our vintage wines and spirits are dedicated, founded the company in the early fifties. From the little country pub he started, the business soon grew, and now the company directly manages 15 hectares of vineyards with two separate firms for the wine-making and bottling. The main winery, recently renovated, houses all the equipment necessary for the complete production; presses, and tanks for fermentation and storage, to a total capacity of almost 3,000 hl, and the bottling line, with a small area devoted to vintage wines in casks, as well as a tasting room, dedicated to Vittorio Mattarelli, the owner’s father. |
The vines of the Bosco Eliceo are situated along the coastal area that extends from the mouth of the Po river to well beyond the salt marshes of Cervia, within the Po Delta Parkland. Tradition has it that the Ferrarese viticulture dates back to the Etruscans who lived in the town of Spina. New life was given to wine growing by the Benedictine friars who settled in the historic Abbey of Pomposa. Further developments were made in the days of the Estense Court. The particularly humid environment, the brinish air and soil, the mitigating presence of the sea all contribute to the formation of the characteristics of these wines.
